What Syncs Automatically
Every event the integration keeps in sync between Smartlead and Attio.
Once connected, the integration listens for activity in your Smartlead campaigns and reflects it in Attio in real time. You don't need to refresh or import anything — it just appears.
Syncing contacts and emails is metered, with a free monthly allowance — see Billing.
When a new email is sent to a lead
The first time Smartlead sends an email to someone:
- A Person record is created (or matched to an existing one) using their email address
- A Company record is created or matched using their email domain
- The lead is added to a List for that campaign (see Campaign Lists)
- A Note is logged: "Smartlead: First Email Sent — [Campaign Name]"
- Smartlead details are filled in on the Person, such as their LinkedIn, phone, and location, if Smartlead has that information
When an email is opened
A Note is added to the person's record: "Smartlead: Email Opened — [Campaign Name]"
When a link in an email is clicked
A Note is added showing which link was clicked: "Smartlead: Link Clicked — [Campaign Name]"
When a lead replies
This is the most important one:
- A Note is added with the content of their reply
- Their status in the campaign List changes to Replied
- A follow-up Task is created automatically, linked to that person's record and due the next day, assigned to a workspace member based on your Reply Handoff settings — so you're reminded to respond
See Notes & Tasks for more detail.
When an email bounces
- The person's bounced attribute is checked, if you've configured one in Deliverability Hygiene settings (skipped otherwise)
- Their status in the campaign List changes to Bounced
- A Note is added with the bounce reason
When a lead unsubscribes
- The person's unsubscribed attribute is checked, if you've configured one in Deliverability Hygiene settings (skipped otherwise)
- Their status in the campaign List changes to Unsubscribed
- A Note is logged
When a lead's category changes
Smartlead lets you (or its AI) categorize leads — for example, "Interested," "Not Interested," "Meeting Booked." Whenever that category changes:
- The person's Smartlead Category field is updated (their previous category is kept too, in Smartlead Previous Category)
- A Note is added summarizing the conversation and the most recent reply
- Their status in the campaign List is updated
- If the new category is a positive one — Interested, Positive, Meeting Booked, Hot Lead, Callback, Demo, or Qualified — the person is automatically added to your Deals list in Attio (this can be turned off, and the target stage configured, in Pipeline settings)
See Leads & Deals for more on this.
Fields added to People records
The integration writes to the following Person attributes, using the default slugs below unless you've mapped different ones in Settings. They're filled in automatically as data becomes available — you never need to fill them in by hand.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Smartlead Lead ID | Smartlead's internal ID for this lead |
| Smartlead Campaign ID | The ID of the campaign they're part of |
| Smartlead Campaign Name | The name of that campaign |
| Smartlead Campaign Status | Their current status within the campaign |
| Smartlead Category | Their current lead category (e.g. Interested, Not Interested) |
| Smartlead Previous Category | Their category before the most recent change |
| Smartlead Reply Category | How their reply was categorized |
| Smartlead LinkedIn | Their LinkedIn profile, if known |
| Smartlead Phone | Their phone number, if known |
| Smartlead Location | Their location, if known |
| Smartlead First Line | The personalized opening line used in their email |
Two more are optional and only written if you've configured them under Deliverability Hygiene settings — there's no default slug for these, so they're skipped entirely if left blank:
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Bounced attribute (your choice) | Checked if an email to them has bounced |
| Unsubscribed attribute (your choice) | Checked if they've unsubscribed |
